The Reason You Are Alive and What That Has To Do With Meaning and Happiness
By Dr. Robert Henry Schwenk

You have asked “Why am I alive?” in one form or another. The answer has to do with what you do with meaning and happiness.

Everyone wonders at some point in their lives, perhaps at several points in their lives, why they are alive. What am I doing here (on earth)?

Here is the answer, as I see it, in three words: expression, animation and manifestation. (That these three words rhyme is fortunate.)

We need to start with what many name God. Please drop all baggage you may be carrying that contains the term “God.”

Let me give a working definition of “God” here that we might start fresh. God is a Singularity. The Singularity. It may be said that God is the Universe – The Whole of It. The Entirety.

As such then God cannot do anything but be everything. God cannot be in relationship to anything else because there is nothing else. But by terms that we humans understand, being The Only means there can be no relationships.

Without relationships, entities cannot not define themselves. God cannot say “I am thus and you are such.” In God’s life there is no “such” because there is no other.

So we came into being, through the mind of God. (I believe it may be that there are other sentient beings in the Universe wherein God may be found as well. But we are dealing with humans only in this writing.)

What then is the reason we are alive? We are to be the expression, animation and manifestation of God. We give what we term as “life” to God. We can be in relationship to other things and beings.

Without our expression, God would be silent, eternally silent. But we can sing and dance and speechify and paint and write and sculpt. We can do all manner of benign and malignant things to declare our aliveness. By so doing we enliven God.

Because we have the largest mental capacity of any beings we know, we can genuinely say that we have the greatest range of animation possible as well. We can be the most alive of all the species on this earth.

By that I mean we can be the most diversified in terms of liveliness of all else upon this planet. In our dancing and speechifying, etc., we can give the widest range of possibilities. Because we have this potential it behooves us to demonstrate it as best we can.

We do not yet know the limits of our possibilities.

We are also the most manifesting creatures that we know. Because God is The Singularity, God cannot manifest, or be incarnate outside of Itself, for there is no “outside of Itself” when it comes to God.

But because we have the capacities of expression and animation, we can be the most manifesting creatures. We can make the most things and or experiences real, tangible, incarnate.

That is part of our job description – to make things and thoughts real. We can take the thoughts of God and make them “appear” within The Singularity.

Here are the reasons you are alive:

1. To be the expression of The Singularity.

2. To be the animation of The Singularity.

3. To be the manifestation of The Singularity.

What does this have to do with meaning and happiness?

When you make constant and deep connection with The Singularity, you plug into The Singularity. You realize your place within The Singularity. In that meld you find the meaning of your life. Expression, animation, manifestation all give you meaning. That meaning has a one word expression – happiness. To know your meaning is to know happiness.

You then show your happiness to yourself and to others by expressing yourself, animating who you are by actions in the world, and by manifesting what The Singularity is through your own life.

There you have the whole package: meaning, happiness, purpose.

You are alive to be what The Singularity cannot.

Get to it.

How Enlightenment Resides In You
By Craig Villarrubia

As I look back at my spiritual journey it is clear that my personal understanding of enlightenment has evolved. Early in my search I remember getting a glimpse of its promises through self-help and spiritual texts. I associated enlightenment with visions, specialness, power and bliss. It was all very attractive to the ego. What better way to aggrandize oneself than to achieve enlightenment? Hence I became a spiritual “seeker.”

Like so many other ego ventures this one was designed to keep me in a trap. You see, as long as I identified myself as a “seeker” of enlightenment I would ensure that I never found enlightenment. In my search I read book after book. I listened to tape after tape and traveled from workshop to study program. I spent countless hours in meditation. All of which certainly evolved my spiritual experience (and arguably led me to an enlightened experience), but none of it really sealed the deal. I never felt as if I could walk with the fortitude that I had achieved enlightenment.

In my mind I had made up “enlightenment” to be a moment of time where I would be blessed with all knowledge. It was an achievement that would be awarded to me for all my good hard work. I thought “perhaps one day in the midst of meditation I would feel it.” I would tell myself “if I can just quiet my mind a little longer.” There were times when I convinced myself that I almost had it. “Happiness is so close” I told myself. The fatal error in all of this was that I placed enlightenment outside my reach and into the future. It was always something to work towards.

In Truth everyone is already enlightened. A lesson I would eventually learn along the way. In A Course in Miracles Jesus says it best “There is nothing about me that you cannot attain. I have nothing that does not come from God. The difference between us now is that I have nothing else. This leaves me in a state which is only potential in you.” Jesus was saying that his enlightenment is attainable to all of us at our choosing provided we relinquish what is not of God. Being a spiritual “seeker” is NOT of God, that was of the ego. In its attempt to hide the truth from me, the ego would have me believe that enlightenment (along with many other things) lived in a future place. But in fact, all visions, specialness, power and bliss is accessible to us right now.

That experiential discovery of Truth IS enlightenment. I don’t have to chase it. Simply allowing what is, exposes the Truth. There is no “road to enlightenment” since a road would imply separation and some kind of distance to be traveled. Enlightenment therefore can be better understood as the discovery of what already is (rather than an accomplishment.) It’s not a destination where all my problems are solved but rather a shift in viewpoint where I can see that there are no problems. Identification shifts from the “little me” called Craig to Oneness and connectivity to all. I’ve come to realize an infinite extension of awareness rests in presence for everyone’s exploration, enjoyment and discovery.

How To Define A State Of Mystical Awareness?
By Debasish Dey

It is not easy to define what goes on in a person’s mind in a state of heightened consciousness. Many a time, glinting flashes of truth streak in through clouds of uncertainty and fall on the eclipsed mind, dispelling its darkness. This dispelling may be momentary, yet the euphoria of the moment makes it seem like eternity.

From the time you initiate yourself into a state of intense awareness, your mind starts racing in all directions. You can compare it to a car that has gone out of control. You can imagine this car to be running on a different track altogether-a track that stretches across a surreal terrain dotted with bizarre natural formations. However, you who are sitting at the driver’s seat cannot gaze at a sight for very long, because you just cannot slow down your car. It has gone totally out of control, and is zooming ahead with supersonic speed. It will slow down only by itself, when its fuel is running low. Yet you enjoy the ride wholeheartedly, because the quick glimpses of the sights you see through your car’s windscreen are enough to kindle in you a sheer sense of wonder and fascination. Try to imagine the excitement of a child who on her first train journey watches the profusion of colors and design in the landscapes that race past her window. In a state of intense awareness, the human mind experiences a somewhat similar thrill.

So when does the mind experience moments of heightened awareness? Anything can trigger it-from reading Tolkien to watching the intergalactic scenes in Star Wars, from the psychedelic colors of Picasso or Dali to the abstract cinematic narratives of Bergman or Buuel. We can just let our minds absorb the vast pool of metaphysical data present in art, literature, and even cinema. We should not forget that true metaphysics has nothing to do with voodoo or such ritualistic mumbo-jumbo. Metaphysical thinking is akin to the thinking of Nietzsche, Osho, Kafka, or Gibran. There was a certain ‘method’ in the heightened madness of these philosophers, which people in their age could not grasp.

It is a fact that in this world everyone is a philosopher to a certain degree. We only differ in our levels of philosophical awareness. All of us do experience sudden sparks of insight that are triggered by the most unexpected cues, and questions like ‘Who am I?’ or ‘Why am I?’ often pop up in our minds as foamy bubbles do in a gurgling stream. However, we do not entertain such thoughts, simply because they arrive to us in a jumbled-up mass of elusive images and undecipherable codes. Cracking these cryptic codes is difficult. What we can do is just sit back and enjoy the endless train of these codes that seem to arrive from some hidden dimension of space and time. Such codes act like men in uniform who work in the dark underground sewers of a metropolis, cleaning up the muck and sewage of the city and sometimes illuminating the dark passageways by flashing their torchlights as they pass.

2012: The Year to Believe and Create
By Emmy Suzy Morgan

What if 2012 is not so much about earth changes, but rather changes within our very core? Could it be time for us to step into bigger shoes? Time to learn to trust in the Unseen? Time to trust in something beside our ego? 2012 will give us all an opportunity to live differently.

Some of us will jump right in and others will stick in one toe at a time. Both work. Do what feels comfortable to you but do take a chance – on yourself. Put your money down on you. If you don’t believe in you, who will?

Our whole lives we have been taught to follow the rules. Were they our rules or did someone else set them up? Be honest with yourself. Are you all you could be? Or did the whole system backfire and now you feel like you can’t do the things you hoped you might be able to accomplish?

If you are reading this, you don’t need all those confining bars around you. It is time for you to expand. To open your heart and balance your mind so that as a woman you are able to think clearly and take action. As a man you are able to feel with your heart and treat others with loving kindness. It’s about coming into balance. We all deserve it.

It is time to step into bigger shoes than what you have dared to walk in before. It is time to stretch. To allow yourself the freedom to think big; the freedom to step out of your old patterns and take a risk for the better; the freedom to share your heart wealth as well as your financial wealth with others; and the freedom to allow yourself to own who you really are.

What if the Divine is within you? What if what you want to create is already yours once you accept that this is so? What if by seeing yourself succeeding, you do? What if the love you want will come to you as soon as you allow yourself to love others and yourself? What if you are whole and perfect exactly as you are today?

Are you in? I’ll be looking for you doing the impossible right beside me.

2012 is the year to believe and create. Believe in yourself. Believe in each other. And know that the creator energy is within you. What if you have been holding yourself back and you are like a slingshot ready to be popped? It’s time. Together we are stronger than alone. We are here now to support each other.

I believe in you. I know you can do what you think is impossible. Picture how you want to live. What it is that will make you know you are on the right track? What is it you have wanted to do but always thought you couldn’t? Now’s the time. We are in a place in the history of the planet unlike any other in modern time.

Do you need permission to live your dream? I am giving you permission now, today, to change how you see yourself. Think of the most exciting person you’ve seen and deliberately step into their shoes. Com’on, just pretend. What do you have to lose? Just for today pretend you are the person you most admire. I’m going for the top. I challenge you to do the same.

Here’s to a fabulous 2012 where we finally learn that we are one. One with each other. One with what appears to be the enemy. One with the robbers and scoundrels as well as one with those who spend their lives helping others. If the creator energy is within you, what plans are you making to change yourself and your world?

The Power of the Spirit Resides in Each of Us
By Steven C Maglecic

Within each of us resides the power of the spirit that is as real as anything on the material plane. This power helps us connect to the great Divine, and it guides us on our path in life. We can be open to the this and listen to its wise words, or completely closed to it and never even know it exists. Many people are like this. Have you known people who are angry, depressed and always lashing out? These people are not connected to the power of the spirit that is within them. No matter how potent it is, it brings a sort of peace to the person who acknowledges it and listens to it. When a person does this, that means the power can go about its business and do what it was meant to do, which is guide us towards our higher spiritual plane.

Your spirit communicates with you through your intuition. Do you know how your gut feeling is usually right? The truth is it is always right, and that it is your spirit power trying to guide you. You were born knowing things that you have long forgotten. Many mystics say that childhood is a long process of forgetting our spiritual birthright. Unfortunately, some adults never get back to what they once knew. However, that isn’t true for all adults. Many adults recognize that they seem to have a ‘sixth sense’ or something that is guiding them and telling those things and that only wants the best for them. This is the sixth sense, and it is a gift from the Divine. All humans have it. You can recognize your spirit power by listening to your intuition more and practicing the quieting of the mind. This can be done through mediation, prayer and breath work. Like anything, it will take practice. The more you practice the better you will get.

Working with your spirit power requires absolute truth. You cannot be living a life of lies and work with your spirit. No one can. If you know someone who is not a good person and yet who seems to be able to work with entities or spirits on a different plane, know that they are either telling falsehoods or are dealing with negative energies, not spirit powers. To work with what the Divine gave you, you must be truthful and have honest intentions. Tell your inner self about your life, your dreams and even your hurts and embarrassments. This will help cleanse you of the negative. You will feel lighter after you allow your spirit to know your greatest weaknesses, because you will be able to finally let all that damaging energy go. As you are cleansed, you will find that your spirit becomes more active and fruitful in your life.

Working with your spirit power is a growth experience. It will never be complacent. Be prepared to grow in ways that might appear scary at first. Your beliefs will change and grow, and some of your most cherished opinions might fall by the wayside. You must trust your spirit power because it is guiding you towards the truth that will bring you closer to the Divine. Most people who tap into the power of the spirit find it to be the best and most important experience of their entire life. Sometimes the way might seem obscured, but it is important to keep moving forward and to keep asking your spirit power to guide you. Be assured it will never abandon you, and that what it will show you is absolutely priceless.

Power of the spirit and how your thinking affects you. 2012 Prophecy says it is a year of enlightenment. Think positive and change your life. Steve is a registered Minister as well a Clinical Hypnotherapist, Time Techniques Practitioner, Emotional Freedom Practitioner, Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner, and a Success Coach. The Awakened Soul: Marching to a Different Drum
By Jacob A Nordby

A nice definition of an awakened person: a person who no longer marches to the drums of society, a person who dances to the tune of the music that springs up from within. ~ Anthony de Mello

Within each of us is an inner orchestra and it is led by Soul, the invisible conductor of our life. We have trouble hearing this music in our modern world because we are engulfed in the clang and rush of external pressures. We often wonder why we keep mindlessly doing all the things which distract us from the call of purpose, but even this small, questioning voice is drowned out as we race to work, hack away at piles of obligation and drop exhausted into bed at night.

Does this sound familiar? Do you ever wonder how to stop the noise and re-discover the joy and harmony of your inner song?

First, it’s good to know you’re not alone. With almost no exception, everyone living in today’s first-world society struggles to carve out space in which we can remember ourselves.

I could spend a lot of time talking in generalities or bemoaning our stressed-out culture, but that’s not the purpose of this article.

No, I intend to strike a clear reminder bell: just that one ringing note which calls us back to mindfulness and peace.

Can you hear it in your imagination right now? It cuts through the clutter of voicemail and bills and ambition and depressing circumstances. It says, “Come find me. I’m your reason for living. I’m your purpose, your passion…your bliss. I will revive your joy. I will give new meaning to the mundane parts of life. I’m your north star and your guiding light.”

A practical sort of person is thinking, “…that sounds lovely and poetic, but what do I do with it? I want the magic back, but for godsake, man…give me something solid to put my feet on here.”

That’s a fair request. In fact, it’s more than fair. We have come to a critical point in human progress at which we are asking ourselves to bring together all the many centuries of higher wisdom and apply it. We know that we know better than we are doing. We know that we don’t need war and greed. We know that just piling up more stuff will never satisfy our essential questing selves.

So here we are. We live in this world. It does no good to wait for society to slow down or re-arrange itself around more meaningful values. We are tasked with finding balance for ourselves, but how?

Anthony de Mello gives us a clue in his definition of an awakened person: “…a person who no longer marches to the drums of society…”.

We’ve already talked about the drums of society: the expectations and obligations and death-by-a-thousand-cuts duties which demand our attention.

So, how do we silence those drums and start living life on our own terms?

Like any worthwhile journey, this one starts with a few simple steps. Here are some suggestions:

    1. Re-imagine. I invite you to sit quietly with a notebook and pen. For awhile, just doodle around the edges and write down whatever loose ends are nagging at you. Then, write yourself a letter. Tell yourself what is most important in life. Daydream about what you’d be doing and how you would be living if you could begin again with purpose. Don’t shortcut this step. Your quiet, inner voice needs room to play. Take care that the new dreams you write are your own…not the ones dictated by the “drums of society”. How does that feel?

    1. Start small. Do something every day to encourage your awakening. Just a short meditation, reading a good book, taking a long walk, or writing in a journal for twenty minutes can be powerful catalysts for self-discovery and transformation.

  1. Walk away. Remember that you have much more power of choice than you have been exercising. Can you turn off the television more often, cut out un-necessary expenses or compress your duties at work? We all end up carrying weights which are no longer necessary, and we often can’t remember why we agreed to pick them up in the first place.

In my own experience, when I got radically clear and honest, I found piles of extra baggage to shed. It wasn’t easy to de-junkify my life at first. I had to learn that saying “no” to stuff which no longer served me was a way of saying “yes” to my awakening purpose. People didn’t always understand my new path, and this is where I learned the value of listening to myself as never before.

Does this give you a bit more visibility on how to simplify your life and re-connect with your own inner music?
